Cash for the same nonstop in August was running about $4,833 one-way, which puts this right at 6 cents per mile — one of the strongest redemptions on the Pacific. Award space was capped at two seats on a handful of August dates and disappeared within the hour.
Go to aa.com and switch the search to "Redeem miles."
Set it to one-way, LAX to SYD, and enter your full passenger count up front — award space prices per seat, so searching for 2 when only 1 is left will hide the deal entirely.
Under Class, choose "Business / First."
Run the search, then open the Calendar tab to see a full month of award pricing at once instead of clicking date by date.
Filter to Nonstop and look for the 80K Qantas-operated flights specifically. American's own metal on the same route prices higher, at 94K in business.
