Nationwide Southwest Rapid Rewards Sale to San Diego from 5K Round-Trip

Las Vegas (LAS) to San Diego (SAN), Economy, Round Trip.

Southwest cut round-trip Rapid Rewards awards to San Diego down to 5,000 points from Las Vegas, with 48 other departure cities landing under 19K through late February. That Las Vegas nonstop is selling for about $97 cash right now, so 5K points plus $11.20 in taxes works out to roughly 1.7 cents per point. Most of California and the Southwest connects nonstop, and the same pricing runs in reverse out of San Diego if you're starting your trip there.

  1. Go to southwest.com and start a round-trip search from your nearest departure city to San Diego (SAN).

  2. Toggle "Show fares in points" before you search. If you skip this you'll be looking at cash fares and the sale prices won't be visible.

  3. Use the Low Fare Calendar to scan a whole month at once. The cheapest award seats cluster on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday departures — the calendar surfaces those instantly instead of making you click date by date.

  4. On the results page, apply the nonstop filter if you want to avoid a connection. From most Western cities the nonstop is also the cheapest option; from the East Coast it usually isn't available at all.

  5. Pick the Basic fare column to get the sale price, or step up to Choice for about 2,000 more points each way if you want a seat assignment and the ability to change dates later.

  6. Transfer your Chase or Bilt points to Rapid Rewards only after you've confirmed the exact flights are still showing at the sale price. Transfers are one-way and cannot be reversed.

  7. Complete the booking and pay the $11.20 in taxes with a card. Since Basic cancels for free, booking first and deciding later is a legitimate move here.
